Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Chennai

This Kapaleeshwarar temple is the ancient Shiva Temple. It is located on the Kutchery Road in Mylapore. It is constructed in Dravidian style as well as it is having the architectural elements, which includes gopurams, mandapams. There is a tank, which is found in the famous temple of Tamil Nadu.
The temple got some damages, back in 1566 at the time of Portuguese take over to Mylapore. But it is rebuilt by the Vijayanagar Kings and now it is known as the temple in the 16th century. The 37 metre high Gopuram depicts legends with beautiful carvings on it. Here the Aruvathumoovai named festival is celebrated in the month of March or April.
